Integrating modern psychotherapy & expressive and somatic arts in service of wholeness and healing.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

About Cybil

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #149705
Individuals — Couples — Small Groups — Workshops

Hello, my name is Cybil Gilbertson and I am committed to a holistic approach to healing. My practice is open to individuals (ages 12 and up) and couples of all ages. Through the use of psychodynamic, depth psychology, somatic and embodied therapies clients are invited to inquire and get to know themselves in embodied and more authentic ways and to compassionately change painful patterns that may add to accumulation and pain both internally and in relationships.

I am especially passionate about working with changing relationships, breaking up better (Conscious Uncoupling Coach, certification pending), women in transition and creatives/artists (dancers, musicians, actors).

I believe that all beings have an innate capacity to self-heal and self-organize. Learning to open to and receive support within the therapeutic relationship can be both transformational and life-changing, and build one’s ability to navigate personal wellbeing and healthier relationships.

When support is recognized and appropriate and deep safety is authentically felt and known, the nervous system can relax and move toward regulation and balance. Here, healing may begin to take place. I believe that innate intelligence, or our deep Knowing, desires wellness and flow within the body, mind and soul. The challenges, pain and traumas of life can impede this flow creating symptoms of dis-ease: depression, anxiety, confusion, disempowerment, and stress.

I utilize an organic synthesis of modern clinical skills and mystical somatic and depth-psychology oriented offerings in service of the Whole and most authentic expression of the individual and couple. I look forward to walking beside you on your journey.

I offer in-person and online sessions. Whereas, I do not currently accept insurance I can offer a superbill to be submitted to your personal insurance for potential reimbursement of services.

I am currently seeing clients in person at Courageous Counseling Center in Santa Barbara, CA and online.

Services

  • Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a facilitated yet personal process of discovery that may support and uncover healing, insight, and greater ease in life and relationship. Just as the flesh holds tension (“knots”) expressed as stiffness and soreness, “emotional knots” (conscious or unconscious) can express similarly, limiting flow and impeding energy and wellness in the Whole Being.

  • Couples Therapy

Couples may benefit from having support in navigating the complex landscape of relationships. Reframing the more static idea of relationship (noun) to the more active and dynamic concept of relating in love (verb), the conversation around partnership may make space and compassion for the complexity of being alive and growing alongside another human being.

  • Conscious Uncoupling

Conscious Uncoupling, created by LMFT and bestselling author and visionary Katherine Woodward Thomas in 2009, is a five-step process to support the conscious completion of an intimate relationship. Conscious Uncoupling has helped thousands of couples create new, life-affirming and cooperative agreements toward a more peaceful future for themselves and their children.

  • Groups and Workshops

    Upcoming:

The Whole Woman; a soul support group for women. 6 sessions beginning February 6, 2022.

  • EMDR Therapy

EMDR can be used to reduce anxiety and posttraumatic stress symptoms such as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and troubling memories. EMDR works with a memory or experience while using “bilateral stimulation” of the brain.

  • Movement

I think of being mindful, or mindfulness, as a light. The light of life force that resides within. The light of your awareness. Simply put, placing your presence, attention, focus or mindfulness on anything infuses it with your light.

Mindful movement can help calm, organize, lower stress, strengthen, release stagnant energy, energize, and offer abundant support.

  • Officiant/Celebrant

Rituals can externalize the times when intention and energy are aligned. Rituals may help us to forge a sense of belonging and meaning and support us in recognizing specific moments in time. Rituals often mark important events in our lives and support us to honor transitions and threshold crossings. Rituals may also help us to create a special time or celebrate social ties and connections.
